Lasers In Dentistry
Abstract
"Laser" is an acronym for 'Light Amplication by Stimulated Emission of Radiation". It was introduced in 1960 by Maiman, contained a ruby rod & emitted light with a wavelength of 694nm.
Earlier use of laser was limited to cosmetic purpose but now it has been used in dentistry for various procedure i.e. cavity cutting, different surgical procedure etc.
Lasers are far better method to use as it reduces chances of bacterimea due to automatic sterilization of treatment site. Also increases accessibility & visibility because of dry field. Laser Coagulates the blood vessels which causes loss post operative pain & odema.
Though it has various advantages still these are complex clinical tools & need to be used wisely.
